Embezzlement—Federal Work Study Funds
David Campbell, the former basketball coach at Barton County Community College in Kansas, has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.[1] In pleading guilty, Mr. Campbell admitted to falsifying his players’ Federal Work Study time sheets and paying them for hours they never worked.[2] Also accused is another former coach, Ryan Wolf, who is accused of recruiting players, and then helping them receive grants they were not qualified to receive and campus jobs that paid them for work they did not do.[3]
Embezzlement
Under 18 U.S.C. § 641, it is a crime for a person to embezzle, steal, or purloin any money or thing of value from a United States agency. The punishment for violating section 641 is a fine, imprisonment for up to 10 years or both.
